Notre Dame South Dorm
The Challenge
Notre Dame College was transitioning from a women's college to a co-ed institution. In order to achieve this, dramatic changes were needed to be made to the campus dormitory facilities. The college contacted studioTECHNE to conduct a building assessment, review the college's strategic plan, and make necessary recommendations to accommodate the quantity of incoming students.
Our Plan
Essential to the new plan was a 15,000 square foot dormitory connector. The new building featured 150 additional rooms that could provide housing for up to 300 students as well as lounges and study areas. While maintaining the social and educational values of the college, studioTECHNE was able to find a design solution that compliments the existing buildings on campus, deliver the project by the summer opening, and achieve improved energy efficiency. Today the building is exceeding the current energy codes by 20%.
