2024 studioTECHNE Gift Guide

We know that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have already passed, but please forgive us as we were carefully preparing our second annual 2024 studioTECHNE Gift Guide. Architects are notoriously difficult to shop for and known for their love of extravagantly impractical things. Maybe the architect in your life just really needs some love and affection; but if you’d still like to gift them something material, we’ve scoured the internet to bring you the most pretentious, overpriced, and utterly unnecessary gifts that will leave your architect friends questioning your taste and their life choices. So, grab your chunky black spectacles and beret, because it's about to get architecturally absurd in here!

Our first selection for the 2024 studioTECHNE Gift Guide is of course coffee related because we’ve yet to meet an architect that doesn’t like coffee. Designed to be not only minimal in appearance but also in its environmental impact, the MiiR 360 Traveler is a great option to take your joe on the go. Perfect for that busy architect always running to site visits or client meetings.

If you’ve stopped by our studio, then you know we love to play hearts. Despite the cardsharp accusations, we’ve come across our fair share of decks…but even this “numerical abstraction” from ANYONE & Benjamin Edgar has us curiously puzzled.

Comedy aside, CW&T’s Pen Type-C is designed with longevity and durability, and should last forever. If you always seem to be misplacing your pens, as we often do, Pen Type-C is also designed to be as thin as a bookmark and the clip should prevent you from losing it.

If you’re tired of hearing your architect friend ramble about all of their “brilliant” ideas, then gift them somewhere to express their thoughts. The trace sketchbook by 30X40 Design Workshop really caught our attention.

If DIY is more your style, you can turn any roll of vellum trace paper into a travel-sized roll with a miter saw…because you never know when an idea might strike. Yes, baby trace is studioTECHNE tested and approved but please use caution.

Anyone in a creative discipline knows the struggle of a “creative block.” Your favorite architect will have you to thank when they’re inspired by a subscription to a design publication that you’ve gifted them. P.S. we’ve had our eyes on DETAIL Magazine. [hint hint]

We recently came across the NeoRuler digital scale ruler by Hozo Design, and we thought this nifty little gadget would be helpful when working with existing drawing sets. Although, this digital scale ruler can also be used for precision caliper measuring and even pencil drafting.

Gifting the architect in your life some essential self care items can help them work-out those knots after a long lonely spell at the drafting board. [Okay we know it’s a keyboard now, but there’s a lack of romance in that]

The Stone Massage: Basalt Deep Tissue / Trigger Point Stones

YUYU: Cotton Waffle Cover for Hot Water Bottle

London Strike: Modernist Matchboxes [fancy matches to pair with your fancy-smelling candles]

Looking for a gift that will last forever? You could say concrete is a “solid” choice…puns intended. Celebrate those blocky, monolithic, and rigidly geometric hulks of beton brut [which is french for raw concrete…already slightly more loveable]. This concrete puzzle will keep their dopamine levels high, and CONCRETE by William Hall celebrates some of the more colorful and playful structures created with this material.

Just finished a drawing set? Construction finally reached substantial completion? Equally beautiful as it is functional, gift this Fein bottle opener to your favorite architect to help them celebrate.
